Moving right along

Had a good time this weekend. Friday mom went through some of the stuff she’s giving me including glasses, pots and pans , bowls etc. then saturday after she came back from school. We went shopping. I got a lot of the stuff on my list like a shower curtain, cleaning supplies, kitchen towels etc. Saturday night K came over after I’d started cleaning out and sorting through my stuff in my room. I made some headway there. Then last night we went down to tackle the basement. I got rid of lots of clothes, old text books and random crap. We basically packed up all my stuff down there. This week I’ll finish with the stuff in my room and then we should be able to move everything before we go to Hawaii. If K isn’t here though, we may not be able to move the stuff until the weekend after we come back from Hawaii. I’d rather do it before but we’ll see what happens. I’m happy we got so much done last night. We were in the basement for about 4 hours. My room should be less than that now to actually pack everything. I felt like I was procrastinating so it’s great we’re actually ahead of schedule. My dad says he’s planning to move out by the end of this week so I’m hoping things line up with moving on 10/29. Then I can relax on the trip except I’ll have to unpack when we get back.

In other comical news, I’m at work (actually in court) with pants that have a zipper that won’t stay up. I think it’s broken. It seems to be staying up right now but I’m lucky I’m wearing a shirt long enough to cover it. I’m wearing new shoes that are pinching one of my toes. I also have an annoying afternoon ahead of me. In good news, I have a much better looking day tomorrow in court and I can finally go get my hair done. K and I have session 3 of our counseling on Wednesday. Always a fun time.

Harmonious

K and I had our second pre-engagement counseling session today. The counselor had the results from our inventories and said that we’re considered a harmonious couple. Meaning that in general we agree on most major areas and only have a few area in which we disagree. I got to our session like 45 minutes late! I’m usually punctual. I definitely have my moments. I guess because today was a holiday, I think the trains were on a modified schedule. I left home a little late but it still took over an hour and a half to get from my house in Brooklyn to 86th street. Ugh and K is the one who’s usually late and he got there on time today.

I had a good acupuncture session today as well. Very relaxing although the woman next to me was snoring!

I’m still down 7 pounds. Another 15-20 to go. Back to work tomorrow.

It looks like I’m moving in less than a month and it’s stressing me out a little. I know everything will be done somehow though. It’s partially stressful because I’m going on vacation right around my birthday so I’ll have to move in after that.

Sister Act

Last night I met up with one of my best friends R, our other friend M and R’s co-worker A to go see Sister Act on Broadway. It was such an amazing musical. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. It was so funny. I really didn’t expect that.

After work, I headed to my acupuncture appointment. I met with a different acupuncturist this time. He’s the husband of the one I normally see. His method is a little different from his wife’s and he focused more on my foot/leg than weight loss stuff. I felt pretty good after. He also thinks my gait may be affecting my knees and legs. I think he’s right. I was googling the day before, related to a case I was handling, and I stumbled upon an explanation that made me think I’m an overpronator. It also stated that folks who overpronate tend to develop plantar fasciitis. The MRI I had showed that condition in my left foot. So I’m trying to pay attention to the way I’m walking but who knows.

Big appointment coming up next week. I’m excited to see how it goes. K and I are doing pre-engagement counseling. If you look at link 2 below, you’ll see it recommends the Prepare/Enrich inventory. I completed mine yesterday. it’s an interesting process. I’m hoping K will have the time to do his so we can go over it during our first session on Wednesday.

I’ve gotten into Tabata workouts. I did 2 this week. They’re insane. You do 8 interval exercises for 20 seconds each and with a 10 second rest in between each set. So 20 seconds on and 10 seconds off. I really like it though. I feel nauseous each time I do it but whoa. Between that and kettlebell workouts I should be back in shape in no time. I’m down 7 pounds. I’ve got 20 more to go. lol but it’s what I want for myself, even if most people can’t understand why I want to lose that much weight.

Transition

So I moved my blog essentially from Xanga to WordPress. My goodness that was an annoying process. I had to figure out the WordPress.org download then how to archive my Xanga. Then I had to get those Xanga files to WordPress.org then export to regular WordPress.com. Thank God I figured it out and it only took two nights. lol

I got to read over some of my old blogs and see how I’ve progressed over the years. It was a great experience. I definitely gained some insight. Seriously need to get back into writing, especially if I ever want to write my book.

I haven’t posted in forever again. I’ve just been busy living. Still working at the same place, got a raise and started contributing to my 401K, I feel like an adult.

Haven’t had a dizzy episode is months. Thank God! Went to Trinidad in November which was great. I hadn’t seen my aunts and cousins in 16 years so it was amazing. There’s something really beautiful about going home. In January the boy and I went on a cruise. We’re still going strong (18 months now if you’re counting). The cruise went to San Juan Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Maarten and Tortola. It left from NY so we had 2.5 days on each end of just being on the ship. There was so much rocking I was this close to buying Dramamine. I was able to get over it. 10 day cruise and I’m thinking gaining 10 pounds is inevitable. Somehow I happened to lose 5 pounds! Left NY while it was snowing, came back and it had snowed while we were gone and then more snow right after.

This winter has been for the fricken birds. I despise snow in a normal winter and dread the winters with 2 big storms. This one was so extra. I mean my office has been closed at least 4 times in the last 2 months.

I’ve been working on paying down my debt. If I stay on the current track I should be debt free (finished paying off my loans) by September 2018. That’s 7.5 years which really isn’t that bad.

Not sure if I have anything else to update. I really like kettlebells, they definitely make a difference.

Hey everyone. I’m still here. I’ve been sick the last few months, seen a bunch of specialists and honestly still feel like crap. It started around late June/early July. I had a cold or something that was pretty bad and then I started getting dizzy spells. It’s happened before and the last time I ended up seeing my ENT then I was fine. I had just seen the ENT in June so I knew it wasn’t the same problem. I saw my primary doc who’s an internist. He prescribed antivert. If you’ve ever taken super benadryl then yeah that’s how I felt. My head was in such a fog, I could hardly get my thoughts out and I felt so tired. So I decided I would only take it in emergency situations. So I finally went back to my ENT when the headaches started. He checked me out. I had an alarming hearing test. On one side, I heard everything. In the other ear, it sounded like I was hearing under water. So he referred me to an audiologist for more tests. The audiologist also had some interesting news.

I have excellent hearing for my age, overall, however I have a notch in my hearing as well. That means there’s a particular frequency I can’t hear in either ear. I can hear the higher one and a lower one, but that one, not at all. It can be caused by head trauma, so he asked if I ever had a blow to the head, a car accident etc. It can also be caused by some childhood illnesses or listening to music too loud, working in a noisy environment. It could also be from listening to an ipod too loud so now I have to get my hearing checked annually. I’ve accumulated quite a list of annual docs for someone without a chronic condition (primary care physician, gyn, ENT, eye doctor, dentist 2x a year, now the audiologist as well). He did some other tests and it doesn’t seem like I have a tumor in my brain but my ears are barely working to balance, my eyes are actually doing more to balance me. So at this point I’m in stage 2 of this condition (labrynthitis) and it could last until the end of the year. Oh joy. I’m also starting to get nausea and headaches more often as well. If I didn’t know better, I’d think I was pregnant. So while googling these other symptoms, other folks with the same symptoms and the same diagnosis continued to have problems for a long time and saw many many specialists (cardiologists etc) had MRIs, EKGs, EEGs, CT scans etc and no new diagnosis or help. Some eventually went to an osteopath or chiropractor who said they had a pinched nerve in the neck that led to decreased blood flow to the head causing the symptoms. So that’s my next choice. I am sick of feeling sick. Even when I have a good day, it’s rarely the whole day. This experience has made me appreciate feeling good and healthy for days/weeks on end. K had been great through this whole process. I’m pretty frustrated though, I mean we’re in September.

I’m keeping all those who were affected by 9/11, lost family members and friends in my thoughts today. 9 years later and it’s still not easier.

Work is ok. Been a little difficult especially since I’m not feeling well. They’re getting me an ipad though so that’s cool! K and I are still on. Kinda funny that this is my second longest relationship at 1+ year. The longest was 10+ years though. We’ve got a ways to go.

Hey people!

I got back from my latest trip on Monday. Mom, my little sister and I went to Toronto. There happened to be a National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) conference at our hotel at the same time. My first thought checking in was “there sure are a lot of brown people in Toronto” then I saw the schedule for the conference.

Toronto is a very beautiful city. It was so clean. We were really impressed with how active everyone was. People were running, walking dogs, biking and rollerblading everywhere. That was definitely inspirational.

Toronto was also very diverse. We saw people of so many different ethnicities and there were so many interracial couples! I thought it was really beautiful. I saw a lot more black woman/white man couples than ever. seems like I see that outside of the US a lot more than in it. I remembered noticing that in London too. Toronto was also somewhat expensive. Their tax rate is something like 13% depending on what you buy so buying clothes etc. can really be expensive.

On our way back to NY, I got to stalk my first celeb! In the airport, I noticed right away that this man looked like Lennox Lewis. My mom and sister are not boxing fans at all! So I tried taking a pic w/ my cell but alas the iPhone does not have zoom yet (thank God OS 4 will have 5x digital zoom). So then when he and his family (wife and 3 kids) were boarding the plane, I took a short video w/ my flip cam! So happy dude got it for me for valentine’s day. so now I have proof that I did see the boxing legend! I didn’t get his autograph as I didn’t know if he would have been annoyed traveling with his wife and kids but maybe the next star I see (like that’s likely) I’ll just go for it. If the person ends up being a jerk then I’ll have that story to tell!

Dude and I going strong 9 months (almost) later. Work is fine although every so often I think I’ll run away to sell beach chairs or jetski rentals. I may actually get my wish there sooner or later…

Hey all (which probably is only 4 people lol).

Happy holidays to you all! I am doing well. Started yet another new job. I have an amazing view from my office. The people I work with are great and it’s a much more relaxed environment.

The dude is still around (5 months later if you’re counting). We’re great, in love and all is well with the world. He’s been under the weather lately but he’s getting better. We did the whole meeting the mothers thing awhile back and all went well. We’re seeing Wintuk on 1/2/10. I’m excited. We’re also planning a trip next December, most likely Brazil. I just came back from Rome and Madrid in November. Had my first cruise to the Bahamas labor day weekend. Having a great time travelling.

No condo or apt news right now, I’m re-evaluating where I want to go in that realm.

Mom and sis are great.
